There are many common weight loss myths that people live by when it comes to their health, and trying to lose weight in particular. It is sometimes difficult to separate the weight loss myths from what is really true and factual. Many ring true while others are just plain funny. I once read somewhere that if you drink water at night you're going to gain weight or if you scratch your head too often you're going to lose your hair...

Weight Loss Myth #1: The more weight I have to lose, the more intense my workout routine needs to be!

Weight Loss Truth: While an intense workout routine is great, there are a few things to consider: The first is that everyone is at a different level when it comes to their fitness and how much intensity they can really handle. If you haven't been physically active for several years, an intense workout for you might be, walking half a mile a day. After you walk the same half kilometer you notice that you are sweating profusely and that you are tired. However, for those who have been physically active for many years, walking half a mile can be done without breaking a sweat. The term "intense" is interpreted differently by each individual.

If intense for you is working out for an hour a day, but because of life's busy schedule you only have time for 20 minutes a day, then those 20 minutes will go a very long way. It might not necessarily be classified as "intense" by your definition, but these little moments of aerobic exercise will have positive health-changing effects.

Weight Loss Myth #2: I Can Lose Weight While Eating What I Want!

One of the biggest myths about weight reduction is this one. It doesn't make sense to think that your health and weight are going to be balanced if your diet consists mostly of Twinkies, chips, and donuts. You can burn it off by exercising, but most people whose diets are dominated by processed foods usually lack the discipline required to maintain a regular exercise schedule. I do know some people who on the outside look like they're in good shape, because they're not "fat, but they have high cholesterol."

Only because I feel sorry for the heartbreak of so many Gemini lovers out there, I would say this. All those "pleasing things," such as fast food, cookies, chips, ice cream, hamburgers, and pizza, are OK in moderation. Anything in excess is never good.

Weight Loss Myth #3: Skipping meals is an effective weight loss strategy!

Weight loss fact: There are many studies that show that people who skip breakfast and eat fewer times during the day tend to be much heavier than those who eat 4-6 small meals should be consumed throughout the day after a hearty, nutritious breakfast. This may be due to the fact that they become hungrier later in the day, and may have a tendency to overeat during other meals of the day.

Weight loss myth #4: I won't lose weight while eating at night!

Weight loss truth: You can indulge more in food during the day and not eat a single thing at night and you will gain weight. Like the fact that you can starve yourself during the day and eat all night and still gain weight. The key here is balance. If your body is telling you it's hungry then maybe you should listen to it. The truth is that overeating, while not exercising, will make you gain weight; No matter what time of day you eat. Whenever I am hungry at night, as is my habit with other meals during the day, I try to choose something that is natural in nature. Something like fruit, vegetables, or maybe I'll even make myself a fruit smoothie. In those moments when I crave ice cream or something sweet, I allow myself to have some, and don't feel guilty about it. Lot of overweight people are seen and they are living their lives nobody has died with this guilt and shame. I do, however, allow myself to have some in moderation.

Weight loss myth #5: I need to cut calories to lose weight faster!

Weight loss truth: Cutting your calories can be a great thing if you're eating too much and stuffing your face. However, if you eat proportionately then cutting calories may have an aversive effect. If you cut calories and starve your body, then it will lower your metabolism, or in other words slow it down, which may result in you actually not losing any weight at all, even if you are "cutting calories"

Weight loss fact: A long journey begins one step at a time. It is natural to expect immediate results and even to fear the road ahead; Especially if you are extremely overweight. The secret here is to make small incremental changes. Expecting perfection can just leave you feeling let down. There is never a point where you are too far from the sun to see it.
